OF ALL THE BARS

Banana Moon Productions are delighted to announce their latest play. From an original script by Mark Rothwell, Neville Thompson and Michelle Burke, we give you OF ALL THE BARS.

Imagine a bar full of Icons, who would you want to see everynight?

And what would they be doing?
In a nutshell thats the concept behind the show.
A bar full of icons and you are a fly on the wall.

THE ICONS

So let me introduce the Icons, in order of appearance.

Humphry Bogart, the owner of the bar and original founder of the Rat Pack. He had many film successes but will always be remembered for Casablanca.

In "Of All The Bars" Bogart has opened his own bar and every night is joined by an array of famous icons.

Sam. Piano player extraordinaire and famed for his rendition of "As Time Goes By".

However in "Of All The Bars" Bogart has once again told him never to play it.

Elvis. The king of Rock and Roll. When he stood on the stage and shock his hips women swooned and the course of music changed overnight.

Tonight Elvis once again steps on stage and lets just see what the ladies think.

Groucho Marx, leader of the infamous Marx brothers, Groucho was noted for his acid put downs and witty one liners. When Groucho was around noone was safe from ridicule.
In Of All The Bars Groucho is a sharp witted drunk, it's nice to see that some things never change!

Jerry Lewis, one of the best loved comics of his day. He appeared in many films, was Dean Martins side kick, a member of the rat pack and still managed to have a solo career as a comic.

Tonight Jerry once again shows his comic prowess as he views all around him.

Frank Sinatra, the legend, the man. King of swing, when Frank talked or sang everyone listened. His renditions of other peoples songs, soon became known as his songs and noone was ever going to argue. Say what you like but Frank always did it, his way.

Tonight Frank vies for the attention of Jane Russell.

Dean Martin, the joker in the pack. Always smiling, always drinking he never took his life, nor his act, too serious. The result was, if you wanted to hear him sing a full song he would tell you to buy the record.

While Sinatra tries to woo Jane, he only has eyes for Marilyn.

Bing Crosby. the gentleman of the group. A family man who prided himself on good family traditions and Christmas songs. But there was so much more to the man.

In "Of All The Bars" Bing is still as cool as he ever was.

There are icons and then there is Marilyn Monroe. Has there ever been a more talked about woman in the world? Her stunning looks often hid how talented this woman really was.

Tonight Marilyn has to fight off the attentions of a whole bar.

Jane Russell was to dark hair what Marilyn was to Blonde. A stunning woman that could sing, dance and act. She resented being known only for her looks and was vocal about it. Cross this woman at your peril.

With a little help from Marilyn, Jane is now getting more attention than she wants!

AND OUR SUPERSTARS PLAYING THE ICONS!!!

AND WHO IS PLAYING THEM

Michael Dowd

Humphrey Bogart is played by Michael "Midgy" Dowd. A very experienced and valued member of both Banana Moon and Deenside Players, he is the perfect man to play the ice cool Bogart. Well known for his appearance in Castlecomer's Annual Pantomime, he played a priest in Banana Moons "Clerical Errors" and the Father of the mining family in "In The Blood".

Ann Moylan

Sam is to be played by ann Moylan. Better known in Comer as Jelly Bean Julie, Ann is a talented singer and entertainer who was also a theatre director in London. Of late she has performed in the Deenside Panto and was one of the famous Irish ladies in the recent celebration of women of the World. Playing a female version of a black male piano player will be a piece of cake!

Neville Thompson

Elvis is to be played by Neville Thompson. The man who usually stays behind stage is making a cameo appearance as the legendary singer. Previously he has appeared on stage as three minor parts in "For One Night Only" on its nationwide tour. He also played Gay Tarrant in the comedy "Sex. Lies and Butterflies" and Herr Vogts, the German captain in the award winning show "The Masterpiece".

Ger Brennan

Groucho Marx was one of the legendary comic roles and noone but Ger "Chubby" Brennan could take on this role. His commitment and dedication to any project he takes part in is unsurpassed. Another stalwart of the Deenside Players Pantos, he has also performed two serious plays with Banana Moon, both times playing the married brother in the family. He was the long suffering husband in "Clerical Errors" and the newly married Mikey in the mining play "In The Blood".

Michael Brennan

When Jerry Lewis was decided on as a character all three in the production team wrote down the same name, Michael "Mousey " Brennan. Another of the fine list of Deensiders, Mousey has been involved with Panto for ages. This year with Banana Moon he showed his ability as a serious actor. Straight after its success he played a great comic role in sketches as part of the "A Miners Christmas" show special at the Demesne, Castlecomer.

Colm Meagher

Frank Sinatra is a huge task for anyone, so what better thing to do than to throw in a new comer to play the part. Colm Meagher has never been in a prominant role in any show, but has been involved backstage at the last two Deenside Players Pantos. Although when you hear his voice and watch his acting you will realise, as we did, what a terrible waste that has been.

Mark Rothwell

Dean Martin, Mister Suave and Sophisticated, is being played by Our Mister Suave and Sophisticated. Mark was also responsible for the initial concept for this show. Mark Rothwell is a well known local figure who has appeared in many local shows.

Barry Byrne

Bing Crosby. Having been brilliant in Pantos through the years Barry Byrne is now taking on the role of Bing Crosby. He has appeared in many shows, pantos and one act plays including "In The Blood" during the Castlecomer Writers Festival 2009. A great guitar, and banjo player, he has entertained audienes for years!

Michelle Burke

Our Marilyn Monroe is Michelle Burke. Michelle is well used to playing  strong women so there is no better person to take on the Role of Marilyn Monroe. She has appeared in three Pantos, was the new wife, Maureen, in "In The Blood" and also played Maud Gonne in a celebration of famous Irish Women. She was also involved in "A Miners Christmas" and "None The Wiser".

           Mary Clarke

And last but not least is Jane Russell. She is being played by Mary Clarke. Mary recieved rave reviews for her amazing performance in the Castlecomer Writers play "Clerical Errors". She was also one of the writers of "Clerical Errors" and "In The Blood", both plays were performed at The Castlecomer Writers Festival and The Watergate Theatre.(2008, 2009)
